Mrs. Joyce Hennek was 8 years old when her dad, who wasn an instrumental music teacher, brought home a violin and began teaching her to play. As she was growing up, she played in school, youth orchestra, and in All Star and Regional orchestras. Joyce continued playing her violin in the University Orchestra while attending Northern Arizona University. She earned a degree in elementary education, but enjoyed her time in orchestra as a fun change of pace from the rest of her studies.
After graduating, Joyce taught elementary school for 20 years in Kingman, Arizona; including two years teaching general music classes. She continued pursuing music for enjoyment, playing in several community orchestras and chamber ensembles. She also worked to pass on her love of music by giving lessons on the side to chilren, teens, and adults.
Joyce left the classroom to be home with her three children and began homeschooling in 2014. In 2021, after having lived her entire life in Arizona, Joyce moved, sigh unseen, to Mt. Pleasant with her husband and two youngest children. She was delighted to find that her new hometown has a community orchestra, and she plays with the Mt. Pleasant Community Orchestra when she can. She is active in the homescool community as a member of CHEMPA, the CHAAMP sports league, and the Fellowship of Christian Homeschoolers co-op.
