Mrs. Susan Prewitt was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, and moved to Mount Pleasant at age five.
She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and attended Stephen F. Austin State University before earning Bachelor of Science and Master of Elementary Education degrees at East Texas State University in Commerce.
Susan retired from education after 39 years of teaching first, second, sixth, and seventh grades for Mount Pleasant ISD.
Her piano studies began at age ten with Mrs. Linda Dawson. She finished under the guidance of Mrs. Vivian Talley the day after she graduated from high school.
Susan’s goal was always to play for church. She felt the call to play for the Lord around the age of 18. That opportunity came when she was privileged to play for Gladewater Baptist Church in Titus County, a position she held for 43 years.
While she was playing every week for Gladewater, a young member of the church asked Susan if she would consider teaching him the piano. She did, and many more students followed. Now, Mt. Pleasant Music Studio is happy to have Mrs. Prewitt on staff as a piano teacher.
Susan has been married to Randy Prewitt for 52 years. They have two children and four grandchildren. They are members of First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, but Susan still fills in today for several area churches when called on.
